How to get there

There are several ways to get from Lisbon to Porto by train, bus, car, plane or rideshare


Porto Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport (OPO) is located 11km northwest of the center.There are a few low-cost airlines that fly to Porto, including Transavia, Air Berlin, EasyJet, Ryanair and the Portuguese airline, TAP.

For local and regional trains, the impressive São Bento Station (right on the corner of Avenida dos Aliados is where you'll have to go. You can catch several suburban trains that go to districts around Porto, as well as trains that go to other cities.

If you are coming by car from the south, you will probably reach Porto via the A1 motorway. If you are coming from Guimarães, you will come via the A7. And if you leave Porto heading east on the A4, pass through Vila Real and Bragança along the Spanish route. The historic center of Porto is a labyrinth of streets, so, if possible, leave your car outside the city or at your hotel

Not that it concerns buses, there is no central point with all companies in the same location. Transport companies are spread across the city but have connections to wherever you want to go in Portugal. ALSA has buses that connect Porto to Spain and Rede Nacional de Expressos, located at the Garagem Atlântico terminal, has routes throughout the country. Rodonorte has daily departures to Aveiro, Bragança, Castelo Branco, Vila Real and other locations. If you travel to Lisbon, Renex is the best choice as it has a direct route. Eurolines provides an international service, as does Internorte. If you find the different services and garages confusing, you can clarify everything at any Official Tourist Office.
